Holiday shoppers not only purchased gifts for their loved ones earlier this month—they helped support breast health! The Maurer Foundation extends a wholehearted thanks to the Americana Manhasset shopping center’s J. Crew store, which raised funds for our life-saving mission through a private shopping event held on December 6, 2013. All attendees who came out this evening made a far-reaching difference, as 25% of sales made between the hours of 6-8 p.m. were donated to our education programs.
Maurer Foundation staff members were on-site to discuss breast cancer facts, distribute brochures and provide instructional cards for breast self-exams. Refreshments were offered, and raffle tickets were sold, with top prizes including a spa gift basket from Long Island Plastic Surgical Group.
The J. Crew event was held as a kick-off to the annual Americana Manhasset Champions for Charity three-day holiday shopping benefit, which took place in late November/early December. During three specified days, all stores that participated donated 25% of full-price sales to charities of the shopper’s choice. We thank those who selected The Maurer Foundation as a recipient!
Proceeds from both the J. Crew private sale and Champions for Charity fundraiser will help fund our breast health presentations, which cover pertinent topics related to breast cancer including risk factors, myths, breast cancer prevention measures, mammogram and breast self-exam information and much more. Through these programs, we are able to provide women with the knowledge that can help lead to early detection and as a result, save lives.
The Foundation appreciates the generosity and support it receives each year, and wishes a happy holiday season to all!
