October 9th 2014: The Maurer Foundation celebrated its 10th Pink Diamond Gala and raised almost $200,000 to support the foundation’s ongoing breast cancer prevention and risk reduction workshops offered to schools, corporations and community groups.
Attendees were privileged to honor a group of long standing champions of our mission: Dr. Eva Chalas, Director of Clinical Cancer Services and Vice-Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Winthrop University Hospital; Shepard Poole, President and CEO of Hallen Construction Company; and Thomas Poole Chairman of Hallen Construction Company.
The event, which was attended by almost 300 supporters, took place at the Carltun at Eisenhower Park. It began with a lovely cocktail hour, followed by a sit down dinner and a fantastic show by Jeff Harnar, a New York based cabaret singer. Our Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Edward Travaglianti, Market President of TD Bank Long Island, captured the essence of the night by highlighting the astonishing efforts of our honorees.
To make the night even more special, Karin Genalo, a breast cancer survivor and volunteer at The Maurer Foundation, shared her compelling story on how attending one of our workshops and applying what she had learned helped to her save her life.
This year’s Pink Diamond Gala was sponsored by various generous companies and supporters. The Foundation would particularly like to thank Hallen Construction Company for being our Pink Diamond Event Sponsor, NY Paving and TD Bank for their Platinum Sponsorships, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Travaglianti, and Mr. Michael & Dr. Kathy Weiss, who supported the event with Gold Sponsorships.
“”The funds raised for this event will help the foundation reach its next goal: to bring information about breast cancer risk factors and the importance of routine exams to half a million people,” said The Maurer Foundation’s Executive Director, Susan Simon.
