Jessica Ortiz, Bilingual Community Outreach Coordinator & Breast Health Educator

Where are you from?   Cali, Colombia

What did you study in school?   Physical Education

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Self-knowledge brings happiness.

What is your favorite way to stay active or exercise?   I love heavy lifting and kickboxing at the gym.

If you could have a theme song play every time you entered a room, what would it be? Family Affair-         Mary J Blige

What do you hope to accomplish working for The Maurer Foundation?  I want to teach everyone the importance of Breast Health Education, but I want to take advantage of being bilingual and spread the knowledge to non-English speakers.

Ceire Barnes, Breast Health Educator

Where are you from?  I grew up on Long Island, then moved to Maryland for 5 years. Now we are back on Long Island.

What did you study in school? Bachelor’s in Health and Physical education and a Masters Degree in Skills-based Health and Social Emotional Learning.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? The most powerful words in the world are “me too”. If you’re going through something difficult, talk to someone who’s walked the same path.

What is your favorite way to stay active or exercise? Hikes and walks with my family.

What’s something most people don’t know about you? Growing up, I spent my summers living in Ireland with my extended family.

What do you hope to accomplish working for The Maurer Foundation? My hope is to helps students feel empowered about their own health and feel equipped with the skills to reduce their risk of breast cancer.

Lisa Lipner, Breast Health Educator

What did you study in school? Physical Therapy

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? The worst thing someone can say is no, so why not ask anyway.

What is your favorite way to stay active or exercise? Yoga and walking/hiking – just keep moving!! Go! Go! Go!

What’s something most people don’t know about you? I travel the world with my husband following Pearl Jam and I just learned to knit and I love it!   

What do you hope to accomplish working for The Maurer Foundation?  As a strong advocate for health and wellness, I hope to empower as many people as I can with the tools to take control of their own health.
