People Magazine recently ran an interview with tennis legend Martina Navratilova who was diagnosed with breast cancer just recently.
At age 54, Martina admitted to not having had a mammogram for four years! After the mammo revealed a lump in her left breast in February and the biopsyThe removal and examination of tissue from a living body to discover the presence, cause, or extent of a disease. came back positive for a non-invasive form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ, or DCIS. She has had a lumpectomySurgical removal of the breast lump and its surrounding tissue. and will begin six weeks of radiation therapy in May. Her prognosisThe expected or likely outcome of a disease, usually based on a statistical analysis of large groups of patients. is excellent!
Martina still leads an extremely active lifestyle by playing tennis, skiing, doing yoga and playing hockey. This will help in her recovery.
