On Saturday, February 23, the Maurer Foundation joined other Long Island health organizations at Huntington’s Walt Whitman Shops to Paint the Mall Red! The bustling health & wellness expo was just one of hundreds that took place at malls across the nation in February in honor of American Heart Month.
Heart disease and breast cancer may be very different kinds of illness, but they share many of the same risk factors, so we gladly joined our community’s fellow health advocacy organizations to promote healthy living at the expo. Exercise, quitting smoking, reducing alcohol consumption, and maintaining healthy weight are all ways to reduce your risk of breast cancer and heart disease at the same time!
Appropriately enough, our table at the expo was positioned right in front of Victoria’s Secret! We were able to reach many Huntington shoppers with our life-saving literature on breast cancer prevention and early detection, and were so pleased to see the passionate Long Island health community hard at work.
If you are organizing a community health event or business health fair, we would love to be a part of it. Please get in touch with us, and we can discuss how we can bring our positive message of healthy living to your event!
