The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education has announced that Melissa Etheridge, a singer, songwriter, and breast cancer survivor, will appear at the Foundation’s annual dinner dance, the Pink Diamond Ball, to be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at The Ritz-Carlton, Battery Park in lower Manhattan.

The event is dedicated to the memory of Marie J. Jensen, longtime Maurer Foundation Board Member and loyal supporter of the Foundation’s innovative breast health education programs. Now in its third year, the 2006 Pink Diamond Ball will celebrate the Foundation’s current program expansion in New York City.

The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education is an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to educating people of all ages about breast cancer risk reduction and early detection. Addressing women and men in schools, community organizations, places of business and through media outlets, the Foundation’s up-to-date educational programs are aimed at dispelling myths and allaying fears about breast cancer while filling the knowledge gap that exists about maintaining breast health. Since its founding in 1995 by Long Island breast surgeon Dr. Virginia E. Maurer, The Maurer Foundation has directly educated over 75,000 people.

Over 400 people attended the 2005 Pink Diamond Ball, raising $600,000 in support of The Maurer Foundation’s educational programs. 350-400 of New York and Long Island’s elite are expected to attend the April 29, 2006 event. This year will also mark the debut of “Diamonds After Dark,” a late night party hosted by the Foundation’s Junior Committee expected to draw another 200 of the area’s young philanthropists to a lively lounge environment.
