The Maurer Foundation was proud to once again partner with LI2 Day Walk to end breast cancer. Walkers, volunteers, supporters, and breast cancer survivors converged on Smith Point Park in Shirley on June 11th, 2016 to participate in a day celebrating those who have battled breast cancer or currently fighting the disease, and all of those working for a cure or providing education to reduce the cases of breast cancer.

This year Team Maurer was honored to have several board members, staff, volunteers, supporters, and our ever amazing and energetic founder, Dr. Virginia Maurer, participate in the 13.1 mile walk around scenic Smith Point Park. We were greeted by a picture perfect morning of sunny weather and cheering crowds, many dressed in costumes, making the day a lot of fun. The event culminated with a sea of pink t-shirt clad survivors marching across Smith Point Bridge, a humbling display of survivors’ spirit and courage, reminding everyone why we walk for hope.

Susan Samaroo, Executive Director of The Maurer Foundation noted of the day, “To experience the resilience of these inspiring and strong women was so moving. We were grateful to be a part of such a powerful day with so many breast cancer organizations coming together raising funds for a common cause.”

All of the proceeds raised by LI2 Day stay here on Long Island and The Maurer Foundation is proud to be one of its recipients.
